InDesign: Creating Master Pages
Parent/Child Master Pages are an excellent timesaver — learn them and save heaps of time when you have to update your master pages. How many times have you had to update the margins or folio on the master pages in QuarkXPress and had to update each master separately? If so, you will greatly appreciate this feature. To create a ‘Child’ master page, create your main master (make this page a generic page that contains your overall margins, guides, and the folio.) Then duplicate the master page and choose the Master Options menu for your duplicated master. Now just name your master page and select the original master page in the ‘Based on Master’ pop-up menu.
